Maura Healey, Massachusetts Attorney General, Class of 1988
Maura was our illustrious speaker for our 111th Annual Alumni Gathering. Maura attended Harvard College, majoring in government, and was captain of the women's basketball team. After two years as a starting point guard for a professional basketball team in Austria, Maura returned to Massachusetts to attend Northeastern University School of Law. Early in her career, she clerked for Judge David Mazzone in the US District Court in Massachusetts, as was a junior partner at an international law firm in Boston, representing clients in the financial services, pharmaceutical, medical device, software, energy, biotechnology and professional sports sectors. Starting with the Attorney General's office in 2008, Maura was sworn is as the Attorney General of Massachusetts in January of 2015 and is leading the People's Law Firm, continuing a career dedicated to fighting for justice and equal rights. Maura helped our alumni scholarships with a generous donation after she spoke at our luncheon.We thank you very much, Maura!
Mary Jane Begin, Class of 1981
In liason with Lane Memorial Library, a Book Signing Fundraiser was held with author Mary Jane Begin Friday, March 3rd. She is an author/illustrator of children's books, featuring My Little Pony. Mary Jane will be did a presentation of her books and held a special author signing for all who attended. She donated 10% of the proceeds to the Alumni Association. Thank you to Tracey Emerton Williams who arrranged for her to visit, and kindly donated some of her autographed books back to the library on behalf of the Alumni Association.
Kevin Cushing, Class of 1974
You perhaps know him as a man about town. Mr. Kevin Cushing, Class of 1974, has graciously donated his time to serve as Trustee of the Alumni Association. Kevin’s fondest memories of Winnacunnet are the co-ed volleyball games, attending the football games, and taking two years of Latin with Mr. Burt Vaughn. He was drawn to our group by talking to Secretary Sue Brooks, and became interested in the community service work we do. His goals are to work on a new directory project, continue the fundraising events, and he hopes to lend a hand in expanding the scholarship program to meet the needs of our underserved students. We thank you, Kevin, for joining us and becoming a key part of our service to fellow alumni.
